How is a breast reduction done?

During breast reduction surgery, excess breast tissue, fat, and skin are removed to achieve a smaller, lighter, and more balanced breast size. The remaining tissue is reshaped and lifted to create a firmer, more proportionate contour.

The nipples and areolas are usually repositioned to a higher, natural-looking position on the breast mound, and in some cases, their size may be reduced for improved symmetry. Unlike a breast lift, a reduction specifically decreases the overall volume of the breasts while also enhancing shape and comfort.

Different surgical techniques, such as the anchor, lollipop, or donut (periareolar) incisions, may be used depending on the amount of reduction required and the desired outcome.

Risks, Recovery & Aftercare

Most patients recover smoothly after breast reduction and are able to return to their normal routines within around 10 days.

Your safety and comfort are our top priorities, and we take every precaution to make the process as safe as possible. While, as with any surgery, there are small risks such as infection, bleeding, or minor healing issues, these are uncommon and well managed with the right aftercare.

✔ You’ll be fully supported throughout your recovery to ensure the best possible outcome.

✔ Some swelling is normal and will gradually improve over the following months, with final results typically visible at around 6 months.

If you have any questions or concerns, we can talk through the entire procedure in detail during a consultation.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We've got A's for your Q's

What is a breast reduction surgery?

Breast reduction surgery removes excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to reduce the overall size and weight of the breasts. The breasts are then reshaped and lifted, creating a lighter, more balanced, and proportionate appearance.

Am I a good candidate for a breast reduction?

You may benefit from breast reduction if large or heavy breasts cause back, neck, or shoulder pain, skin irritation, posture problems, or make it difficult to exercise and find comfortable clothing. It’s also suitable if you feel self-conscious about breast size and want a more natural, proportionate look.

How long is the recovery after breast reduction surgery?

Most patients return to normal activities within about 10 days. You’ll need to wear a supportive sports bra for 6 weeks to aid healing. Some swelling is expected and gradually improves, with final results becoming clear within 6 months. Our team provides full aftercare and follow-up to support your recovery.

Will a breast reduction leave visible scars?

As with any surgery, scarring is inevitable, but incisions are carefully placed to be as discreet as possible. Common techniques include anchor, lollipop, or periareolar (donut) incisions, depending on your needs. Scars usually fade significantly over time and become much less noticeable.
