How is a tummy tuck done?

The surgery technique will depend on the amount of excess abdominal tissue to be removed. Technique will be discussed in detail during consultations.

A scar is designed along the lower abdominal area and the belly button is moved to its new position. Where required, abdominal wall muscles may be tightened using permanent sutures.

Scars will be sutured using dissolvable sutures. An abdominal compression bandage will be applied at the end of surgery.

Risks, Recovery & Aftercare

Most patients experience a smooth recovery and are able to return to their normal routines within three weeks.

At Dr Hussain Plastic Surgery, your safety and comfort are always our top priorities, and we take every precaution to minimise risks during a tummy tuck procedure.

Most patients recover smoothly, though as with any surgery, a few temporary issues can occasionally occur. These may include some bleeding that is easily treated, mild wound infections that usually settle with a short course of antibiotics, or fluid build-up (seroma), which can be managed with a simple drainage in clinic.

In some cases, particularly after significant weight loss, healing may take a little longer, but this is carefully supported with regular check-ups and dressings. It’s also normal to experience some swelling in the abdominal area, which gradually improves over the following months as your results continue to settle.

If you have any questions or concerns, we can talk through the entire procedure in detail during a consultation.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We've got A's for your Q's

What is an abdominoplasty?

An abdominoplasty, commonly known as a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat from the abdomen and tighten weakened or separated muscles. The result is a smoother, firmer, and more toned abdominal profile.

Am I a good candidate for a tummy tuck?

You may be a good candidate if you have loose or sagging skin around the abdomen due to pregnancy, significant weight loss, or the natural ageing process. It is best suited for patients who are at or near their ideal body weight but struggle with areas that do not respond to diet and exercise

How long is the recovery after an abdominoplasty?

Most patients can return to light activities within two weeks, with full recovery taking a few months. Swelling and tightness are normal in the early stages, and our team provides full aftercare and follow-up appointments to support a smooth recovery.

Will a tummy tuck leave visible scars?

Like any surgery, a tummy tuck involves incisions, but these are carefully placed low on the abdomen so they can be hidden beneath underwear or swimwear. Scars typically fade over time, and with the right aftercare, they become much less noticeable.
